Ex Army, hike alot, geo-cache, fish...lots of outdoors things. I used to shoot USPSA here until primers got too skinny.

Greetings
Hello. I just joined (I'm sort of new to posting on forums so please be patient with me). I am in Boca Raton and searched google for a Florida Survivalist group, finding you folks. There is no shortage of these groups in other parts of the good 'ol USA but seems to be slim pickings here in FL. My intention is to keep in tough with local like-minded individuals. My husband and I have been working on our self-sufficiency plan for the last 3-4 years, building our knowledge base and working in increasing skills for self-reliance. Anyway, I look forward to see what all the posts have to say and chime in when I can. I also look to get your insight on things.

re: New to this site
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this site and thought an into would be appropriate. My husband and I live in the St. Petersburg area. We have family in Tampa, Sarasota and near Ft. Myers.
We believe that we are the only members of our families that are more than just mildly concerned about the possibility of impending collapse of life as we know it. We do have family members that agree, but not to the extent of making changes to prepare for possible economic/social collapse.
We are looking for a group of people with the same mindset that would be willing to meet, trade knowledge and train each other on usable skills, and work on a group plan. For most people, bugging out means going somewhere where you have friends or family that can help support you in a time of instability. We know that for the most part we are the only members of our families that have stocked up some supplies. (Not enough though, can you ever have enough?)
We also know that in rough times we will be expected to defend what we own. Our position is not defendable and we have no ability to acquire property off the beaten path. According to information I have read, any property in a town/city that has a population of more than 40,000 people may not be defendable. Historically, larger cities and towns and homes in surrounding areas get burned to the ground.
A good book to read to put this into perspective is Patriots by James Wesley, Rawles
Another book that I heard was excellent is One Second After by William R. Forstchen. I have ordered this one but not had an opportunity to read.
Also in regard to the coming times is a website that provides a whole wealth of varied information is www.camelotproject.org. Everyone has their own belief systems but this site is a real eye-opener. I do recommend watching the utube versions of the Awake and Aware "Conference in LA" dated Sept 2009.
If we can form a cohesive unit to prepare for uncertain times, the outlook will be much brighter.
Any takers?
